About/FAQ

Who runs Procyon Gear Supply?

PGS is a single-person operation in Vancouver, BC. I handle all the prototyping, making, communication, logistics, and shipping. Maybe that'll change one day, but for now, I'm all it is!

How long will my order take?

Being a one-person operation, sometimes things take a while; making new stock, responding to emails, shipping orders out, etcetera. If something is in stock I can likely get it shipped out within a day or two. If something is out of stock (in which case it usually won't be available to purchase in the first place) or if it's a custom order (which can often require ordering materials or reworking patterns) then it'll take some more time than usual-- anywhere between 1-4 weeks. Feel free to shoot me an email if you've got concerns before/about an order.

Can I get a discount?

No can do... For now. Procyon is still in its early stages and with me having to manage everything I'm not really in a position to cut margins. If you do want something I usually stock for a cheaper price, there's a chance I might have an older version, or a similar version using upcycled materials, but that's about it for the time being. Keep up with the Instagram as well as I'll often sell off prototypes and one-off items cheaper than their regular price!

What's your refund/return policy?

All regular stock items can be returned, as long as they're in new or like-new condition, within 30 days of receipt for a full refund, with return shipping covered by you. Refunds are issued once the item is returned and has been inspected for damage/wear. If there is notable wear, a partial refund may be issued instead.

All custom orders are final, no refunds or exchanges. So when we're hashing out the details, make sure we've both got everything dialed before I go ahead on making things!

What's your warranty/repair policy?

Anything I make is covered by a one year warranty for manufacturing defects, but not regular life wear-and-tear. That said, I'm happy to do repairs on some items outside of that year, depending on how much damage has been done and how repairable the item is. Send me some photos and I can provide a yes/no and a quote. In either case, return shipping will have to be paid by you, but shipping the item back out will be covered by me.

Can you make [idea] for me?

Maybe! I'm always down to talk custom projects but, even if I have the time to take it on, I can't promise it'll be cheap or quick-- I like to do things right and that generally means drafting, sourcing materials, and then building it all out, which takes a while. Send me an email with the project you've got in mind and we can go over the details that way.

Why do/don't you use [material]?

Hoo boy. Loaded question. I've got a whole 'nother page here dedicated to material choices if you want to learn about what I use and why.

What's up with the name/logo?

Procyon Lotor is the species name for the common raccoon, which is also my favourite animal. So, I designed the logo to look like a raccoon. Some folks think it's a fox. That's alright because foxes are cool too.

Other names I'd gone over before landing on "Procyon" included Tanuki (which, while similar in appearance to raccoons, aren't as goofy), and "Ringtail," which was unfortunately already taken by Ride With Ringtail, and even though they don't make the same kind of stuff, it's still cycling related (and pretty cool) and I didn't want to bite their name.

The logo is also inspired by this one-eyed rascal, who on a trip to Yosemite National Park one year, stole our Cheetos.
